Take That was formed by Nigel Martin Smith in Manchester in 1990. Nigel wanted an British version to the American successful "boy band" New Kids on the Block. All members of the band responded to an ad posted by Nigel in a Manchester newspaper. The original band consisted of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, and Robbie Williams.

TT got their exposure playing many gigs around the UK. Sometimes they would play as much as 3 gigs per day. They attracted a following by playing in the under 18 clubs and the gay clubs without even releasing a single yet.

Take That sold 100 million records between 1991-1996. They have been described as " the most successful band in UK history since the Beatles ". They released 4 albums between 1991-1996 which gave them 17 singles and 9 #1 hits.

Their success also reached the rest of the world with successful singles in the rest of Europe, Australia, South America and they even had a top 10 hit in the US with their 1995 song "Back for Good ".

They have received various awards during that time including many "Smash Hits" awards and 4 Ivor Novello awards given to Gary Barlow for his songwriting for the Take That #1 hits "Pray" "Back for Good "

The band split in 1996 but after a 2005 documentary and their release of their greatest hits album "Never Forget" "The Ultimate Collection" , the announced a 2006 UK tour.

On May 9th 2006, they announced they were "back for good" and were to record their first studio album in over 10 years. The album was called "Beautiful World" and it reached the #1 spot all over the UK and Europe. It gave the band 2 more #1 singles in "Patience" and "Shine " and 2 more hits with "I'd wait for life " and "Rule the World ". "Rule the World" was also the title song of Matthew Vaughn's 2007 film "Stardust".

Take That also received 1 Brit Award for Best Single in 2007 for "Patience" and 2 more Brit awards in 2008 for Best Single "Shine " and Best UK live act.

The live act award came from their 2007 successful and record breaking tour of "Beautiful World ". Both concert DVD of the "Ultimate Tour and "Beautiful World" reached the #1 spot in the UK and parts of Europe.
In May 2008 TT also received the Ivor Novello award for songwriting for their song "Shine".

In their spare time right now band members are pursuing solo projects such as songwriting and djing and there is talk of another studio album for later this year.
TT new album called the "The Circus" was released Dec 1st 2008. The 1st single off that album is called "The Greatest Day" and it was released Nov 24th 2008."Up all Night" is the 2nd single and it was releaed March 2nd 2009
In June and July 2009 Take That had the fastest selling tour . They entered the Guiness Book of World records for that feat.
In Nov 2009 they will be releasing "Greatest Day" Live . It will be their 1st live alb um encompassing the songs they sang on thei r Circus tour. They will also be releasing "Live and Unplugged " a compliation of songs recorded in Abbey Studios

They will also be releasing this fall Singstar Take That on PS2 and 3 .
